WESIE returned to South East Nigeria for the 2017 edition of its street tournament for ladies. This year, 17 teams featured in the event with 5 male teams from the South East joining 12 female teams from across the country.
With the Female national coach in attendance to scout for players for the national teams the players played their hearts out for places in the national team.
Significant improvements were noted in the level of play as many teams raised their game resulting in last years finallist losers- Enugu state winning the competition against Rivers (last years finallists). New entrants Bayelsa state took third place against the host Imo state.
The mens competition was won by the hosts, Imo state.
The event turned out to be a massive success inspite of many logistical challenges and WESIE was grateful to have the support of other organisations such as the Nigerian Basketball Federation, Imo state sports commission, Calabar Forum UK and national media outlet representatives such as Dream FM and the Sun Newspaper.
